NACA is a non-profit organization that travels around the country promoting its "Save the Dream" campaign by assisting home owners and buyers. I am a home owner and have my mortgage with One West Bank (Indy Mac). I heard about NACA from a family member and it was only a day before their event that I was informed of the program, so I quickly registered on their web-site, thinking that this organization would be able to get me approved quickly for a modification without hassle. I was wrong.

First off, let me just say that the web-site is not user friendly. It warns you that it is really only supported by Internet Explorer (a browser I hate), so if that browser has problems, you're screwed. Secondly, although I was able to save my basic contact information, none of the additional questions that I answered on the application were saved. Part of this was due to the questionnaire refusing to save anything unless I provided bogus answers to questions that were not applicable. For instance, I never filed bankruptcy; yet, the system kept asking me to provide the type of bankruptcy I had, a case number and other non-pertinent information. I finally gave up and attended the event in Downtown Detroit that following morning.

I arrived at 8:30 am. I was instructed to sit and wait for the presenter to finish with the first group, so I did. After about 20 minutes, the group I was with were sent to another area and we went over very basic information--like how to fill out a 4506 EZ tax form. We were also told that we would need to have our 2009 tax returns, but that is not what the instructions on the web-site included; it just read the previous two years, so many people only had their 2011 and 2010 returns. Fortunately, I already had my 2009 returns-and the rest of my life-in my bag. We were also told that we needed to provide bank statements. Again, NOT something that was listed on the site for people who were NOT self-employed.

During the time we filled out the application, the presenters/volunteers talked to us like we were grade-school children. I mean, really...I understand that some people need some hand-holding and are very ignorant about filling out forms and the mortgage process, but there is no reason to talk to a bunch of adults like we are five-year old children. How insulting. Moving on...

After we filled out forms, we were sent to an area where we had to wait to be set up to speak to a phone counselor. This person went over our basic monthly expenses, which I had already filled out five times on the *** web-site. After going through the questions, I was THEN told to speak to my lender, who was on site. When I spoke to OWB, the loan officer THERE had me fill out yet another f****g application that had the same set of questions, and requested that I fill out the same 4506 Form as well as all of the income statements and bills I brought with me. That took another hour and afterward, THAT guy told me that I was approved for a rate reduction, but I would still need to provide documents, if needed and to send them to NACA since I was registered with them, and it would take a couple of months to get a temporary modification; if I completed the temporary mod successfully, I would get my loan permanently modified. For real? You mean to tell me that after spending nearly six fu****g hours in a place that looked like a warehouse, being talked to like I'm a retard, and being given the run-around, I STILL have to jump through hoops??

The bottom line is NACA is a middle man...it's only good for those who don't have any common sense and who need hand-holding; basically, the ignorant. The modifications are still reviewed and approved by the lender. If anyone has complained that they have been getting the run around from their lender when they tried to modify their loan, they are likely to have the same experience with NACA. My sister went down there as well, and they kept telling her that she needed additional documents and at one point, they claimed they didn't have her information until she 'went off' on a lady. Miraculously, that woman was able to find her paperwork.

So, all I can say is that my experience was horrible, a waste of time. I could have done all this myself and I should have. However, lesson learned.

It was a waste of my time also, and I volunteered 4times out of the 5 time's they wanted you to and still couldn't help me! They told me they needed to see me pay rent or mortgage consistently for 6 months, before they would help, I ended up in an expensive apartment that I can't really afford that's taking all my money which leaves me none to save because they want you to have $2000 saved in the bank, Really??

Then they want all your information account number and all!! Which is crazy.

If they know they can't really help you stop misleading people and putting them in binds, cause that's exactly what they've done to me!!

I went down there and left with nothing but a booklet. It's been weeks and I have not been contacted, emailed a member number or anything! When I call member services, they tell me that there is no phone number for the Detroit office because they just opened that office, my question is, how are they communicating and getting information if they don't have contact I formation

REMOVE the POWER from NACA everyone send them an e-mail to CLOSE your case. When NACA receives a high volume of cancellations; then they will learn their lesson! Don't give NACA any more power people!!

There is two side of every story. What gets me, this side of the story has been told by many, and still things haven't changed much with Naca.

I would like to buy a house and I would like to try NACA. However, these days, if you don't move on time, someone else will get it. Then, you have to hope and pray you get a home that's close to your job or your child's school.

I understand this is a non-profit organization. However, they need to stop offering their services all over the world until they could help the ones they promised or is waiting.

I heard good things about NACA and I don't want to lose hope.

You are exactly right, NACA may have good intentions but until they get more help and more professional people, they are a waste of time. They tell you and your agent that you can't get an approval until you find a home and then once you find a home they need information about the home and taxes etc.

and then they have to approve that and then they will give your agent an approval letter.

It is not that type of market to be waiting around for several approvals because why you are waiting, guess what, the home has received another offer. NACA IS A JOKE!!!

Let me get this straightรขโ‚ฌยฆ

You managed to get a mortgage modification started in only SIX HOURS, and you are calling it a รขโ‚ฌล“waste of timeรขโ‚ฌยรขโ‚ฌยฆ

You are complaining that the NACA website works best on a browser that is the standard on 95% of the personal computers on Earthรขโ‚ฌยฆ

You have a problem that the NACA staff spoke in plain, simple terms and made sure everything was communicated clearly, especially since English is not the first language of many of the people in the roomรขโ‚ฌยฆ

You take issue with the fact that the phone counselor reviewed the information in the file to make sure it was accurate, especially since you say you for some reason felt the need to enter (change) the information รขโ‚ฌล“five timesรขโ‚ฌยรขโ‚ฌยฆ

You are unhappy that the OneWest rep was thorough in dealing with documents and making sure that no shortcuts were taken, even though taking those same shortcuts in originating mortgages was one of the primary causes of the mortgage crisis and economic collapseรขโ‚ฌยฆ

In addition, you felt it necessary to add in some (implied) foul language to add extra validity to your complaintsรขโ‚ฌยฆ

And you remain "anonymous.

Enough said.

NACA is well intentioned. Disorganized and overly burdensome for needless redundant inspections and paperwork, yes.

The mortgage product is outstanding, and many of the people are congenial and diligent. The process needs an overhaul. A team of four summer coop students from a local college could come up with recommendations for streamlining at no cost, and it would make it better and easier for the NACA employees to do their jobs more efficiently. Better service experience for members too.

The inflexibility on certain items that are well beyond industry norms makes the brokers want to recommend against accepting any NACA offers. It is too bad.

One remark about the post I am replying to, all feedback is a gift whether the one giving it does it out of anger or to really help. The substance of his or her post was noteworthy; asking the same question 7 times does not help, and the site could be improved with minor modifications.
