I have been in the program since 2013. Umm.

It's 2015. I have a new counselor and she is rude. I spoke to my friend who works at the bank and they told me to move on to a real estate agent because the naca counselor wants me to get grants on my own and ask people for help . She told me that the documents that I submitted have not been received and I need to learn how to fax.

I told the counselor that I actually walked into the office and the receptionist scanned and uploaded my docs. I could never get through on the phone and emails would never be returned. Ugh..

frustrated. I'm moving on to an agent.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Location: Orlando, Florida

If you have been in the program since 2013 and have yet to be qualified, there are definitely reasons why that are not disclosed in your message. Three to four months is commonplace unless there are financial issues that have yet to be cleared up, such as unsettled collections that are less than two years old, a bankruptcy, foreclosure or short sale under two years ago, or perhaps a failure to keep the documents in your file current.

Faxing them directly into your file with the NACA fax cover sheet is in fact the most efficient way to get requested documents into your file.

If you were somehow offended by your counselor's encouragement to seek out and apply for one of the hundreds of grant programs to help you buy down your interest rate to potentially near zero, I can't understand why. Such funds, when applied to buying down the interest rate on the loan save three to five times the money over the life of the loan compared to a traditional down payment. A little legwork can in fact result in savings of thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. It's something most members are very eager to do.

Your friend at the bank may well have other motivations to encourage you to leave the NACA program. I hope your friend is ready to cover the closing costs, fees, mortgage insurance and difference in the higher interest rate you will have by going another route.

Regardless of how you decide, we wish you the best.
