So, in 2008, my husband and I heard all of his wonderful stuff about NACA and how they were helping people modify their mortgages. (Oh, one important thing to note: the mortgage was in my husbands name ONLY and I was not on title.

I was not tied financially to this home at all). After attending the NACA seminar, we thought they could help and so we registered for their help. 4 months in, our NACA contact told us point blank that I needed to quit paying my credit cards (which were ONLY in my name and to which my husband was not tied) in order to be considered for the modification. We continually asked WHY I needed to stop paying my credit cards as I was not on the mortgage NOR was my income or my SS# used when obtaining the loan...in fact, my husband and I had always kept our credit completely separate as we did not get married until well into our 30's and we were both already cemented in our lives.

At the time, my credit score was around 750. After much heartache and many talks, we decided that our home was more important and so in June 2009, I agreed to let my credit go in order to facilitate the mod. Long story short???? Never got the mod, Never got the help and now I have judgments and a credit score of 393 and our home went into foreclosure.

Something should be done for all of us who were told to ruin our credit to keep our home and then were left holding a bag of broken dreams thanks to NACA. they are SLIME and if I could sue them, I would!

REMOVE the POWER from NACA everyone send them an e-mail to CLOSE your case. When NACA receives a high volume of cancellations; then they will learn their lesson! Don't give NACA any more power people!!

I also found NACA in 2007 they did stop the first foreclosure. A year later there was still no resolve and the second foreclosure came swiftly with not a single response from NACA.

I was going to consider them again until I looked up my file online and saw how pitiful it looked. And the fact that I have tried to contact them several times with no response again so it looks like I'll be going elsewhere for financing.

40k As it stands making 14/hr I won't see that sum of annual income for another 15 to 20 years...and I have a college degree. and 120k a year o_0 for real?

Fontenot, I wish I made $120,000 a year...I wouldn't even need NACA's help. A lot of NACA participants are low to moderate income.

For those of us who make less than $40,000 a year, especially in California, hope is all we have for holding on to that NACA dream. Honestly, I try my best to trust them, but my conscious is telling me it's a waste of time.

I know the response to this..."listen to your conscious"! I'll try to stick it out for a couple of more months and if I don't hear back from my counselor after leaving several messages and emails, I'm done!

NACA is FAKE, I make 120,000 A year, my mid score is 630 and they have ran out of things to tell me I need to bring in.Its been a year and 9 months and were still doing the same lame dance, little do the know they are under investigation started by their employee`s and people tired of getting jerked around. How do I know, Im the example.

If I make over $120,000 A year and my credit score is 622-655 and am still getting jerked around, just think of the people who dont make as much and is sucked in by NACAs American dream. Im sorry to say, it wont happen! You will end up giving up like the thousands before. Ask your NACA contact, How many loans did NACA close this year?

NONE!!!!

trust me NACA is about to get exposed. I feel sorry for the people still believing in the dream.

These community-based help organizations are usually staffed by incompetents hired off the street because they cannot find a real job. They suddenly become financial experts.

You got some terrible, terrible advice. Because you and your husband are bereft of financial ability, you followed their advice like good little children. I doubt there is anything you can do at this point except work to get your credit back.

Start by paying off your credit card balance(s) each month and only buying what you can pay cash for or pay off when due at the end of the month. And, tell everyone you know how they messed you up.
