I am in the process of going through NACA counseling and this is the worst experience ever. They make up rules daily and act as if you the consumer should be aware of their new over the top rule that wasn't printed in the handbook that they tell you to review carefully.

Meanwhile, rules that are listed they want to bypass. The Underwriter denied my application b/c I refused to involve my landlord by having him complete a rental verification form; my counselor co-signed and tried to "encourage" me to have this done. I had to send a copy of their rules listed in the NACA handbook which state you can submit canceled rent checks and a signed lease or the NACA rental verification form; only then was my appeal approved. I had to fight for my first appt., showed up with every piece of paper asked for, scanned onto a zip drive and previously faxed...guess what, they couldn't find a thing; this has happened a couple of times.

My last appt. was had b/c I just showed up and refused to leave. No one picks up the phone, no one returns calls and emails are iffy. I can't make a phone appt.

b/c the website says I first need to submit materials that have already been submitted but my passive counselor doesn't seem to think any of this matters. UGH! I am super frustrated b/c by right, there is nothing in my file that should have caused this process to go on longer than 2-3 months, and truthfully, not even that long. I was under the impression our counselors were to fight our fight, mine could care less, you can't reach a Supervisor, NACA consumer services are a waste of time.

I am sticking with this program b/c I have no problem being an antagonist, but this is not the program I signed up for. This is not the program sold to me via their propaganda.

My motivation (outside of having a home) is that I have to participate in a volunteer activity and when I get the chance to talk to prospective members....I will not have good things to say. Their computer system is archaic, the counselors are unorganized and the underwriters are unreasonable.

Reason of review: Lack of concern for the consumer.

NACA Cons: Communication, Time consuming, Empty promises, Counselor.

Location: Cleveland, Ohio

Walk away while you can. As a real estate agent currently trying to close on a home with a buyer using NACA all I can say is you are wasting your time. Customer service and communication are nonexistent and the chances of closing on a home are slim to none!

Some of what you said doesn't make sense. You submitted documents in a zip drive?

I'm guessing you mean zip file and even then, it means you decided to ignore that their online system only accepts pdfs and tiff files so you submitted something that wasn't accepted.

Why do you refuse to involve your landlord. What does it buy you exactly? Let's say you move to a new rental, your new landlord will need to contact your current one. .

.

for your rental history. So you just unnecessarily made your process harder and demonstrated to your MC that you are going to be difficult, unwilling to work with them, for pointless reasons - all to avoid your landlord providing information they'd otherwise need to provide on your behalf anyway.

A zip file is a zip file (on a computer), a zip drive is a zip drive (an external drive), two entirely different things. You don't need to involve your landlord (and shouldn't) because you will be left in a situation when this mess doesn't go through.

I had similar issues dealing with NACA, but through perseverance, patience and prayer all worked out in the end. I was exactly where you are, often frustrated and crying.

I tried to always focus on the bigger picture and was able to attain my goal in less than one year.

I have had my home for four years now, thanks to NACA. Stick it out and keep submitting whatever they request, even if you have provided it already.

Please send me your name and NACA ID number at the email address below so I can investigate your claims.

Regarding your statment that "when I get the chance to talk to prospective members....I will not have good things to say", be mindful that your signed Membership Agreement specifically states that you will "Refrain from engaging in any conduct deemed by NACA to be harmful, threatening, demeaning, or contrary to its interests, staff, mission and agents". I understand your frustration, but you won't make it any better by committing breach of contract.

You should however be able to tell the truth of your experiences. If NACA WANTS TO REFRAIN FROM NEGATIVE REVIEWS THEY SHOULD WORK HARDER TO IMPROVE THIS CONVOLUTED SYSTEM

That document was not a contract; its an agreement! if your process sucks you can't make anyone say different. If you require people to volunteer, they shouldn't have to sugar coat and lie about what the process looked like for them.
